The red haze lifted to darkness. He fluttered there for a while before it turned to a feeling of peace. His eyelids felt so heavy. He didn’t try to open them. Not yet. Duncan wanted to float there for a little longer.

“You’re going to be all right, boss,” a voice said softly.

He breathed in and groaned, feeling as if a thousand needles were blazing through his whole body. Reality slapped him wide awake. “Dina…”

“Shit, Duncan?” Bates’ hand landed on his shoulder, trying to keep him down.

“Take me…Dina,” he stammered, pushing up from the couch.

Frowning, Bates reluctantly helped him to his feet and kept one arm around his back. Duncan leaned heavily on him, not the first or last time, and was half-dragged through the kitchen and into the hub.

Beyond the threshold, Duncan released his mentor and teleported to Dina’s side, collapsing beside her.

“Captain! You are mad,” Liam said, coming around the bed to help. “Vitals are fine. She’s just not waking up.”

Bracing against the medbed, Duncan gazed down at his sister, somewhat relieved she was okay, but still weeding through what he—they had just experienced. Bates came rushing in, and Kim and Lexa watched from behind, creeping up slowly. He paid them no attention and grabbed his sister’s hand.

Reaching out to her mind, he called her name, willing her to hear him. She squeezed his fingers. Duncan sat down on the bed, keeping the link strong, and called her again. Smiling, he felt her coming to as he glanced up at Liam and nodded. He checked her bio-readings And sighed with relief.

By the time Dina’s eyes opened, everyone was standing around the bed, making her jerk back.

“You’re good. You’re at home.”

“Pop?” she asked, meeting Duncan’s stare.

“What happened?” Liam asked.

“Time slowed,” she said.

Duncan continued. “We were connected, dreaming maybe? I saw a prison.”

“Tolk was torturing our father…. He, no, oh my God.” Dina covered her face.

“No, no, I don’t think he did. I can’t explain it, but I know he’s alive, sis. I swear it,” Duncan said, soliciting a few confused looks from the others. He quickly detailed the important points of what he and his twin had experienced, which sadly didn’t help change anyone’s expression. “In the dream thing, Tolk killed him, but I know he’s fine.”

“Maybe it was a threat?” Lexa guessed.

Dina, looking a bit stronger, shook her head.

“One of your father’s messages?” Bates asked.

“No, it was way more painful than that.”

“A premonition?” Liam asked.

“Don't think so,” Duncan said. “I don’t know. Neither of us are precogs.”

“But you know one, your old general,” Kim said. “Can’t they corroborate things like that? Vision to vision or something?”

Her voice stirred something in Duncan. He was getting caught up in the emotions again. Whatever this was, it had to stop. It was too distracting.

“I’m not sure it works like that, but it may be something to consider,” Liam answered.

“Are you really certain that he’s alive, Duncan ?” his sister asked with a light, fearful glow to her eyes.

“Yes, certain.” Perhaps the background link with his father had started after the first dream.
